Let’s talk about bad habits. Everybody has them, don’t try to tell me you don’t. I have had and still have quite a few. I was a smoker for more than 20 years (I know, terrible), I drank quite a lot in my youth and still enjoy a bevie these days, and I have basically had no skin care routine to speak of for the last 25 years. I’ve gone to bed in my makeup, used the cheapest possible cleanser with no idea what it’s function was, I’ve not washed my face for 2 days running…. and let me assure you, there’s been many hundreds of days I’ve gone without moisturiser and or sunscreen on my face. And it shows.
Pigmentation, discoloration, redness, blemishes, blackheads, enlarged pores, scarring… As you can see from the mug shot above, I have it; I can assure you, posting that photo is not something I’m really comfortable with but I promised honesty so that’s what you’re getting here. One of the awesome things about starting this blog has been trying out new products, I won’t lie, it’s a pretty great perk. Below are the first group of skin care products I’ve tested and you’ll soon see what the right products, a little consistency and some time for self-care can do for a person.
Australian pink clay masks are HUGE right now. It is said to be the most gentle of all the clay used for skin care and is suited to almost every skin type. It has great drawing out properties that pull the toxins and impurities from the skin and leave you feeling smooth and glow-y. And I will say, it did not disappoint. From the first use, my skin felt baby bum smooth, but it didn’t leave me with that awful tight skin feeling so many other masks do. I didn’t feel like I needed to slather myself in moisturiser just to get some movement back into my cheeks. It has a soft, pleasant smell that’s not even reminiscent of dirt and it’s glides on beautifully. I loved using this mask and I will never stop! I am amazed at the changes in my skin after only 4 uses. I’m using this every 2nd night right now, but as my skin improves that will drop back to every 3rd night.
If you’re going to do something you might as well do it right. I picked this little beauty up from Coles, but they’re also available at Priceline or from ECO TOOLS directly via the link above. The brush makes application so easy and so much more neat and tidy than using your fingers. I find I use less product when I use the applicator too. Mine came with a handy sponge for rinsing the mask off after it dried. Definitely worth the trip to the store.
I had just run out of cleanser while I was at Coles picking up my mask brush and saw this cleanser too. I’ve head great things about charcoal and definitely have oily skin so I decided to give this a test run too. My first impression was that its really hard to lather. I like a good foam when cleansing so that was a bit irritating. As far as it’s performance, it does the job. I do feel a little tight across the forehead and cheeks using this cleanser but my skin has continued to look and feel better so for now, I’ll keep on using it. It’s definitely not my perfect match but it’s not something I’m prepared to toss out. This is my morning and night clean.
This serum caught my eye because of its claim to be ideal for skin that has been overexposed to the elements. As I mentioned, I’ve not been one for great moisturiser and sunscreen for the past 2 decades so I have more than my fair share of sunspots and discoloration. My complexion could definitely be described as dull and in desperate need of tightening and lightening. I quite like this serum, it’s light and non-greasy, doesn’t leave a residue and I find when I use this directly after I cleanse, my skin is less oily at the end of the day. This is a morning and night serum that goes on under my moisturiser. I purchased this from Nourished Life which is a great online store that is really passionate about natural, toxin-free skin care.
I think these pictures tell a pretty great story. My skin initially was dull, muddy, blotchy, blemished, and just really underwhelming. After the first use, you can see the blemish under my nose that has been drawn to the surface (it never did break the skin though and was gone the next day), my face is brighter and looks lighter and lifted. The third photo is my favorite though. Ten days later, my tone is so much more even, the blemishes have disappeared and my scarring has faded a little too. I am in complete shock every time I look in the mirror and every day it’s a little bit better. The Alya Skin Pink Perfect is AMAZING. It has become a permanent addition to my beauty routine and I think you should all try it. I quite like the Andalou Enlighten Serum as well and I think that’s played a strong role in evening out my tone and colouring. I would definitely recommend it.
Thanks for reading and hopefully, the next time you’re here you’ve tried some of these goodies too.
